The Cesarean Section as Related to Its Indications


Abstract
This study was based on retrospective investigation of the 1230 cesarean sections among total 9901 deliveries at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Chonnam University Hospital from January 1, 1976 to December 31, 1985 and analyzed according to its indications.
1) Total cesarean sections were 12.4% of total deliveries and they showed increasing tendency year by year.
2) Repeated cesarean sections were 74.5% of previous cesarean section cases and showed decreasing tendency.
3) Cesarean sections of dystocia cases were 86.9% and showed slightly increasing tendency probably due to the use of the fetal electronic monitoring.
4) Cesarean sections of breech presentation cases were 40.9% with rising tendency.
5) Cesarean sections of fetal distress cases was 84.0% without significant change.
